The BetaFPV Cetus FPV Kit is a complete, ready-to-fly bundle that takes the complexity out of getting started. Specifically designed for indoor use, it features an ultra-lightweight brushed drone, a reliable radio, and entry-level goggles. With built-in Altitude Hold and Optical Flow positioning, it is one of the easiest drones to hover, making it perfect for kids and absolute beginners.

Product Description

This is the "original" kit that started it all for BetaFPV's beginner line. While the Aquila16 we discussed earlier is a newer generation, the Cetus FPV Kit remains a staple because it is incredibly compact and focuses on the absolute basics of indoor flight.

  • Auto-Hover Technology: The Cetus uses a barometer and a laser (Optical Flow) to measure its height and position. In Normal Mode, the drone will stay at a constant altitude even if you let go of the throttle. This "training wheels" feature allows new pilots to focus on steering without worrying about crashing into the floor or ceiling.

  • Three Progressing Flight Modes: To help you grow as a pilot, the kit features Normal, Sport, and Manual modes. You can start with full assistance and slowly turn off the "nannies" as you become more comfortable, eventually learning the same full-acro skills used by professional racers.

  • Durable Brushed Power System: Unlike brushless motors, these 716-19000KV brushed motors are designed for gentle indoor cruising. They are lighter and safer for flying around pets or furniture, and the frame is made of ultra-tough PA12 material that can survive repeated bumps against walls.

  • Emergency Self-Protection: The Cetus is smart enough to know when things are going wrong. It will automatically perform an emergency landing if it loses connection with the radio or if the battery gets too low, preventing "flyaways" and protecting your gear.

Technical Specifications:

  • Positioning System: Optical Flow / Barometer / Laser

  • Drone Type: 1S Brushed Whoop

  • Motors: 716-19000KV Brushed

  • Propellers: 31mm 4-Blade (0.8mm shaft)

  • Camera: C02 FPV Micro Camera

  • VTX: 25mW Analog

  • Flight Controller: Lite 1S Pro Brushed FC

  • Transmitter: LiteRadio 2 SE (Frsky D8)

  • Goggles: VR02 FPV Goggles

  • Weight: 35g (with battery)

  • Flight Time: ~4-5 minutes

The Pilot's Reality Check:

  • Brushed Motor Lifespan: Unlike brushless motors (which last almost indefinitely), brushed motors have a limited lifespan because the internal brushes eventually wear out. If you notice one motor feels weaker or the drone won't take off straight after a few months of heavy use, it’s simply time to swap in a spare set of motors.

  • Indoor Specialist: Due to its ultra-light 35g weight and 25mW VTX, this drone is strictly for indoor use or very calm days in a small backyard. It will struggle significantly in even a light breeze.

🤔 Frequently Asked Questions
  • Is it true this drone can hover on its own without me touching the sticks?

Yes, and that’s why it’s so popular for absolute beginners. It uses a barometer (for height) and an optical flow sensor (for horizontal position) to "hold" its spot in the air. In Normal Mode, if you get panicked, you can literally let go of the remote and it will just stay there. It’s the closest thing to a "pause button" you'll find in FPV.

  • What’s the difference between "Brushed" motors and "Brushless"?

The standard Cetus uses brushed motors, which are simpler and cheaper. They aren't as powerful as the brushless motors on the Cetus Pro or the Nazgul, but they are much gentler for indoor flight. The main thing to know is that brushed motors have a lifespan—eventually, they wear out and need to be replaced, but they are very inexpensive and easy to swap.

  • Can I use the goggles and remote for other drones later on?

Yes, but with limits. The VR02 Goggles work with any "Analog" drone (like many racing or tiny whoop drones), but they won't work with the digital DJI O4 systems we discussed earlier. The LiteRadio 2 SE uses the Frsky D8 protocol, so it can control other small analog drones, and it’s excellent for practicing on FPV simulators on your computer.

  • How durable is the white plastic frame?

It’s made of PA12 nylon, which is surprisingly tough. Because the drone is so light (only 35g), it doesn't have much momentum when it hits a wall. It usually just bounces off. It’s much harder to break this than a heavy carbon fiber drone, making it the "asjalik" choice for someone who expects to crash ten times a day while learning.

  • Why is the video quality in the goggles a bit "static-y"?

This kit uses Analog video transmission. Unlike the crisp HD video of the O4 systems, analog looks more like an old tube TV. You might see lines or "snow" if you fly behind a thick wall. The benefit is "zero latency"—the image reaches your eyes instantly, which is vital when you're trying to react quickly to avoid a chair leg or a ceiling fan.
