ETHIX Mambo

Remotes

The ETHIX Mambo is the "Mr. Steele" version of the standard TBS Mambo, designed for pilots who want a traditional box-style radio without the massive footprint of an old-school transmitter. It ditches the built-in Crossfire for TBS Tracer, providing ultra-low 1.6ms latency. With its battleship grey finish and rubberized side grips, it’s built to feel more "gritty" and locked-in during aggressive freestyle sessions.

Product Description

ETHIX Mambo Radio Transmitters Version Special Edition Radio Protocol TBS Tracer (Built-in) Style Traditional / Full-Size Compact

While the Tango 2 was built for portability, the Mambo was built for the pilot who missed having physical switches, trim buttons, and a bigger screen. The ETHIX edition takes that platform and adds custom aesthetic and ergonomic tweaks based on feedback from the Ethix crew.

  • Tracer Inside: This is the first radio with TBS Tracer built directly into the board. It operates on 2.4GHz with a 250Hz refresh rate. It’s perfect for racers and freestyle pilots who prioritize the most direct "connected" feeling over the extreme long-range penetration of 915MHz Crossfire.

  • JR Module Bay: Even though Tracer is built-in, there is a full-size JR bay on the back. You can easily plug in a Crossfire Micro TX or an ELRS module if you need to fly quads on a different protocol.

  • Custom Ethix Ergonomics: The front fascia is "Battleship Grey" with a textured finish for better grip. The side grips are upgraded to a softer, more rubbery material compared to the standard Mambo, preventing the radio from slipping if your hands get sweaty.

  • Full-Size Hall Gimbals: It uses the same high-quality, ball-bearing Hall effect gimbals found in the Tango 2, but in a shell that allows for more traditional "pinch" or "thumb" styles.

Technical Specifications:

  • Weight: 565g (without batteries)

  • Battery: 2 x 18650 Li-ion (Not included)

  • Display: 3.5” LCD (128 x 64)

  • Antenna: Internal/Embedded (External SMA add-on available)

  • Switches: 4x 3-position, 1x 2-position, 1x Momentary button

  • Operating System: FreedomTX (OpenTX fork)

  • Channels: Up to 12 channels

The Pilot's Reality Check:

  • The "Tracer" Commitment: Since the internal module is Tracer, you’ll need Tracer receivers on your quads. If your whole fleet is currently on Crossfire or ELRS, you’ll be relying on the external JR bay until you swap your receivers over.

  • No Batteries Included: Unlike the Tango 2, the Mambo does not have a built-in battery. You need to buy two high-quality 18650 cells separately. Don't cheap out here—use reliable brands like Sony, Samsung, or Molicel.

  • FreedomTX: It runs on a fork of OpenTX. While it’s very similar, some specific LUA scripts or themes designed for the latest EdgeTX might require a bit of tinkering to work perfectly.

🤔 Frequently Asked Questions
  • What’s the main difference between this and the standard Mambo?

It’s mostly about the "feel" and the extras. The ETHIX version has a grittier, textured shell for better grip and custom rubber side handles. You also get the "Crown Jewel" stick ends, which are sharper and more precise for "pinchers," and the potentiometers are labeled with Mr. Steele’s signature "Send" and "11" markings.

  • Does it use Crossfire or Tracer?

The Mambo has TBS Tracer built-in. This is TBS's 2.4GHz protocol designed for ultra-low latency ($1.6$ms) and a high refresh rate ($250$Hz). If you want to use your old Crossfire gear, you can still do it by plugging a Crossfire Micro TX module into the JR bay on the back—the Mambo is designed to play nicely with both.

  • What kind of batteries does it take?

It runs on two 18650 Li-ion batteries (which are usually not included in the box). These sit in two separate compartments in the "ears" of the radio. A smart feature here is the USB-C 2A charging; you can plug the radio directly into a phone charger, and it will balance-charge both cells in about 2.5 hours.

  • Can I use it for simulators?

Absolutely. The same USB-C port used for charging acts as a "plug-and-play" HID interface for your PC or Mac. You don't need any special dongles; just plug it in, select "Joystick" on the radio screen, and you can practice in Liftoff or Uncrashed using the exact same gimbals and switches you use in the field

  • How long is the range on the internal antenna?

Even though the antenna is hidden inside the top of the shell for "ruggedness," the Tracer system can still reach up to 25km in ideal conditions. Because the antenna is embedded, you never have to worry about snapping it off in your bag. If you're doing extreme long-range, there is a small port to add an external "omni" or "patch" antenna for even more security.
