The DJI O3 Air Unit is the current gold standard for digital FPV transmission. It integrated DJI's flagship O3+ technology into a standalone module, allowing custom FPV drones to record 4K/60fps internally while providing a near-latency-free 1080p feed to the pilot—effectively eliminating the need for a separate GoPro on many builds.

Flagship O3+ Video Transmission: Borrowing tech from the Mavic 3, the O3 system offers a 1080p/100fps live feed with latency as low as 30ms. Its dual-band auto-switching ensures a stable connection even in high-interference environments.
4K/60fps Onboard Recording: The camera module records high-quality video directly to its 20GB of internal storage. This footage supports D-Cinelike 10-bit color and is compatible with RockSteady 2.0 or Gyroflow for post-production stabilization.

The Pilot's Reality Check:

Heat Management: The O3 Air Unit gets extremely hot while sitting on the bench. It is designed to be cooled by airflow during flight. Always use a fan when configuring settings on the bench to prevent thermal shutdown.
Mounting Requirements: The camera module is 20mm wide. While most modern frames are designed for this, older "micro" frames might require 3D-printed adapters to fit the lens properly.

Does it really replace a GoPro?
For many pilots, yes. It features a 1/1.7-inch sensor that records 4K/60fps internally at a 155° super-wide FOV. It supports RockSteady stabilization and records 10-bit D-Cinelike color, providing enough dynamic range for professional color grading. Additionally, it stores gyro data, making it fully compatible with Gyroflow for buttery-smooth cinematic stabilization in post-production.
How much internal storage does it have?
It comes with 20GB of built-in high-speed storage. This is an "asjalik" safety net; if you forget your microSD card or it fails mid-flight, you can still record several minutes of 4K footage directly to the unit. It also supports external microSD cards up to 256GB.
Is it compatible with my older DJI goggles?
Yes. The O3 Air Unit is compatible with DJI Goggles 2, DJI Goggles Integra, and the older DJI FPV Goggles V2.8 When used with Goggles 2, you get a 1080p/100fps feed.9 When paired with the V2 goggles, the feed is limited to 810p/120fps, which is still incredibly smooth and low-latency (10$<28$ms).
What about the "Heat Issue" I hear about?
The O3 Air Unit is a powerful computer that generates significant heat. In "Standby Mode," it will automatically lower its power output to prevent overheating. It is highly recommended to arm your drone as soon as possible after powering up to get airflow from the propellers, or use a small fan while configuring it on the bench.
Do I need a separate receiver for my radio?
If you use the DJI FPV Remote Controller 2, you do not need an external receiver. The O3 Air Unit has a built-in SBUS link that handles both your video and your control signal. However, most professional pilots still prefer to use ExpressLRS or Crossfire for superior control range and reliability.
